Intro to Virtual Reality

Are you interested in Virtual Reality (VR) but don't know where to begin? Come join us in the TTU Libraries' 3D Animation Lab for your intro session, where we will cover the basics of VR (terminology, different systems, etc).

Note/Announcement

If you intend to attend the workshop in-person and adjourn to the VR Lab for the after-workshop tour, it is highly recommended that you create a free Meta account (at auth.meta.com) prior to attending the workshop. This will reduce your possible 'downtime' in the Lab. It is possible to quickly create a Meta account (by tying it to an existing Facebook or Instagram account), but I generally recommend that most users create a standalone account.

Meta also owns and operates two distinct 'stores' for their two different lines of headsets. The Oculus Rift Store allows you to 'purchase' (either for free, or by spending actual money) games/apps/experiences for the Oculus Rift headsets used in the Libraries' VR Lab. The Oculus Quest Store allows you to 'purchase' games/apps/experiences for the Meta Quest headsets that you might have at home.

There is also a page called 'Oculus Cross-Buy Apps' which allows you to purchase games that will work on both stores/platforms.

Additional Note/Announcement: Meta's 'Fall Frights Sale' is also going on now, through November 3rd.

Jake's curated list of FREE games/apps/experiences (for the Oculus Rift store)

VR apps/games (what Meta calls 'experiences', because they include more than just games) tend to be, as a general rule, more expensive than traditional (or 'flat') video games. But you don't have to break the bank to get started in VR. Here are some suggestions to ‘get you started’, for no additional cost.
