Texas Tech University Libraries is committed to providing equitable access to our scholarly collections for all TTU students, faculty and staff regardless of their geographic location. Each academic department has a designated librarian that serves as their subject specialist. The librarian works with their faculty to collect all manner of resources that support the programs, research and teaching of that department. Materials will be provided in an online format, unless an alternate format is requested or no online is available. In some cases, both online and the alternate format will be purchased. To further serve our patrons, TTU faculty, students and staff can request material purchases through the Item Purchase Request form on our website or through their subject specialist. This request will be reviewed by the subject specialist responsible for collection development in that discipline.
Additionally, we use a Demand Driven Acquisitions (DDA) program where our users have immediate access to ebooks via OneSearch our discovery system. The DDA is directed by a detailed subject specific computer profile created by each subject specialist. Bibliographic records for recently published ebooks that meet the profile parameters are loaded into OneSearch for immediate use. Employing a DDA program provides our 8users with instant access to previously unowned ebooks at the point of need. When an unowned ebook is used it triggers a purchase that is invisible to the patron. This program provides our faculty, students and staff additional participation in the collection development for their subject areas by selecting and using the ebooks they need.
The library provides trial access to resources such as databases and ejournals we do not currently own for user evaluation and feedback. Trials can be requested by the faculty through their subject specialist. Trials will run a minimum of 30-days and are posted to the libraries’ website in Databases A-Z. Users can provide feedback using the form is provided with the trial in Databases A-Z . Faculty and students may also email their feedback to their subject specialist. Results are reviewed throughout year, resources a earning high positive feedback will be added to the collection as the budget permits.
Request for Library assistance with new program proposals and discipline-specific accreditation will be managed by the Library Process Manager, subject specialist. More information and the assistance request form can be found here.
Resources needed to support new programs and/or comply with accreditation will be added as quickly as possible.
This policy was developed to provide our faculty and students access to a robust library collection tailored to the teaching and research needs for their areas.
