How to choose an AI Research Tool

This session is ONLY available on Mediasite at the following link. Please use Firefox browser if you have issues with accessing it.

1. Define your research needs

Questions to ask may include the following: Do you even need a tool? What is your research problem/need? What type of data is being used (images, text, audio, code, etc)? How complex is this task?

2. Research available tools and Evaluate them

Questions to ask: Are there tools in your research area? How does the company talk about transparency, accountability, fairness, biases and other practices? (ex., Do they have an ethics board? What do they say about AI ethics?) Google for reviews? Do they address any privacy concerns?

Is this tool functional? How easy is it to use (user experience)?

4. Test and refine

•Choose a small number of tools to try

•Apply small data batch test to the tool to see if it is worth it

•One tool does not suit, you can try another

•Keep an eye on biases
