Recorded 8/30/2024, 1-3PM: Join me on this National Cherokee Holiday and learn to weave a Cherokee Flat Reed pattern on a 3D printed loom. All materials to make this project will be provided, but patrons may provide their own materials if preferred or if attending virtually. We will be using two colors of Medium 4-ply acrylic yarn, but medium 4 ply cotton or cotton blend yarn can also be used. The looms that we are using for this workshop were designed and printed at the Makerspace. If you would like a copy of the loom files to 3D print for personal use, you can find the files on the Makerspace Textiles Lib Guide.
Below are the stl. files for the Makerspace's Mini Loom. There are three separate files: the mini loom, the long loom needle, and the loom comb. These can be printed at the Makerspace for the cost of material plus a printer bed fee. All you would need to do is email us at make@ttu.edu, attach the files you want to print and we will generate an invoice for to approve that will indicate the cost of the prints. ABS plastic will work great, be sure to indicate the color you prefer. Please indicate that you do not want any brim or supports as these meant to be printed flat, as they are.
Just a note: for the long loom needle, you will have to cut off the segment of the tip, as it is too flimsy. There will be a slight node, this is where you can make the cut. Sand down or hold over acetone to smooth out any jagged parts.
