Texas Tech University Libraries now has access to Web of Science's AI Research Assistant.
This guide will go through some aspects of the AI assistant.
Understanding a Topic
Depending on the topic, this section may or may not be helpful.
When testing the assistant on keywords, the assistant was unable to combine research terms, such as "carbon fiber use in submarines", and instead chose the first important word to focus on. In this example, that was carbon, or carbon fiber.
Be careful using the assistant in this way. You may be better off with a keyword search for some topics.
The AI Assistant will:
Bring back seminal papers in a citation list
Cite it's source material
Literature Reviews
In order to find a topic map for a literature review project, you should start a new chat, then click, "Literature review." From there, enter your topic.
The Assistant will create a related topics map, and a list of seminal papers.
For this example, I used "carbon fiber in submarines." This shows the limitations of the Assistant as of Jan 2025.
Find a Journal
The AI Assistant can also help you find a journal to publish in. You will need to provide the title of your article, and the abstract, and the AI Assistant will create a list of recommended journals.
