What Peer Tutors do:
Help classmates understand course material and prepare for exams.
Create a supportive and respectful learning environment.
Adapt tutoring to different learning styles.
Maintain confidentiality and professionalism.
Communicate with faculty or coordinators as needed.
Model good study habits and academic skills.
What Peer Tutors do not do:
Complete assignments or exams for students.
Grade or evaluate student work.
Teach new material not yet covered in class.
Guarantee higher grades or academic outcomes.
Act as a substitute for instructors or give official course instruction.
Share confidential information or discuss students outside sessions.
Provide content outside their area of expertise.
What Writing Consultants do:
Support students in improving reading comprehension and writing skills.
Help with brainstorming, drafting, revising, and editing written work.
Guide students in understanding assignment goals and academic expectations.
Encourage critical thinking and effective communication.
Maintain a respectful, student-centered approach to feedback.
Promote independent learning and writing confidence.
What Writing and Reading Consultants don't do.
Write, edit, or proofread papers for students.
Guarantee better grades or outcomes.
Judge or grade student work.
Teach course content or replace the instructor’s role.
Fix writing without the student’s involvement.
Provide help on take-home exams (unless explicitly allowed).
Work outside their area of training or expertise.
