Hispanic Serving Institute (HSI) Resources

What is HSI?

"HSI" stands for Hispanic-Serving Institution."

It is a designation created by the U.S. Department of Education to identify and support institutions of higher education that provide post-secondary educational opportunities to Hispanic students.

According to the U.S. Department of Education, A Hispanic Serving Institution  (HSI) is defined as an institution of higher education (university or college) that -

• is an eligible institution (college/university, enrollment of needy students, accredited, etc.)
• has an enrollment of undergraduate full-time equivalent students that is at least 25 percent Hispanic students.

Researching HSIs and other minority-serving institutions can be difficult. When entering "HSI" results sometimes pop up for science or some type of safety training.  To make sure you get the results you need you can use the following keywords or terms:

Hispanic-Serving Institutions

"Hispanic Serving Institutions (HSIs)" - here the use of quotes around the phrase will make sure that the whole phrase will be searched together.

Use these terms in context of what you are searching within your area of research. For example: Hispanic-Serving Institutions AND servingness.".

Use AND, OR, or NOT to limit results to include specific geographic areas, years, or other demographic.
