What is Document Delivery?

Document Delivery is a free service available to Texas Tech faculty, staff, and students that allows patrons to request books, articles, and media, both in the Texas Tech Library and elsewhere.

In general, any item held by a library may be requested but some items may be more difficult to get a hold of than others.

  • Consortial agreements between libraries prohibit the exchange of textbooks.
  • Entire volumes or issues of journals are generally non-circulating.
  • Rare items [very old books, unpublished manuscripts, etc] are sometimes non-circulating. If this is the case, you are welcome to request that a portion be scanned.
  • Dissertations and theses are often but not always available. In some cases, we can help you to purchase a personal copy if no other options are available.
  • If you are looking for a rare or hard to find item and are not sure how to request it, feel free to ask our staff for assistance.

Each request is checked first for availability within our holdings and held for the requesting patron if it is available. If it is not available, we will request the item from other libraries for a short term loan. When your item is available, you will receive notification via email.

How do I make a request?

Requests may be made directly through your Document Delivery account or through a number of our databases.

To request through your Document Delivery account:

  • Log in to your Document Delivery account.
  • Select the type of media you would like to request. For example, for a book, click on “Book.” For a journal article, “Journal/Article.” For a CD or DVD, “Media.”
  • Complete the form provided to the best of your ability. The more information you can give us about the item you need, the easier it is for us to find it and the quicker we will be able to get it for you. If you have information that does not fit in the usual citation fields, please include them in the “Notes” field.
  • Click “Submit Request.”
  • Your request should now appear in your “Outstanding Requests.”

To request through our databases:

  • Find the article or item in question through OneSearch on library.ttu.edu or through our databases.
  • Depending on the database you are in, click the “Request this,” “Request Item,” or “Get It!” button.
  • Log in with your eRaider.
  • Verify that the request page has been filled in correctly. Some or all of the citation for the item being requested may fill automatically.
  • Add additional information if necessary.
  • Click “Submit Request.”
  • Your request should now appear in your “Outstanding Requests.”

Where are my items?

Articles, book chapters, and certain other items available as PDF are delivered electronically to your Document Delivery/ILLiad account. These items can be viewed under “Electronically Received Articles.”

Students and staff can choose between Main Library, Architecture Library, or Law Library as a location to pick up the books they request through Document Delivery.

Items at the Main Library can be picked up with your Texas Tech ID in Library 130 or via Curbside Pickup between 8 am and 7 pm Monday – Friday, or at the East Desk any time the library is open.

Faculty and Distance patrons, please see the appropriate tab for more information.

How do I change my user information?

Information in your Document Delivery account does not automatically update when you change it with the university. To update your address, status, or otherwise change your user information:

  • Log into your Document Delivery account.
  • Under “Tools” in the left hand menu, select “Change User Information.”
  • Update your information accordingly.
  • Verify that your pickup location, status, and mailing address are correct.
  • Click “Submit Information.”

If you are a distance patron changing your address or if you are newly a distance patron, please contact our office via libraries.docdel@ttu or (806)742-2239 to verify your changes.
