Nikon DSLR Quick Start Guide

Step 1. Charge Battery

  1. Insert battery into charger.
  2. Plug charger into electrical outlet.
  3. When battery is fully recharged, the charge lamp stops blinking and remains on.

Step 2. Insert Battery into Camera

  1. Pull back on door lock.
  2. Open the battery compartment door.
  3. Load battery into compartment.
  4. Close and secure the battery compartment door.

Step 3. Insert Memory Card into Camera

  1. Slide cover toward back of camera to unlock.
  2. Swing memory card slot cover open.
  3. Insert memory card into camera with label facing toward back of camera.
  4. Swing memory card slot cover closed.
  5. Slide cover toward front of camera to lock.

Step 4. Attach Lens to Camera

  1. Align index on lens (white dot) with index on camera (white dot) and rotate lens until secure.

Step 5. Configure Lens to Autofocus

  1. Slide the lens A-M switch to A. If the lens has an M/A-M switch, select M/A for autofocus with manual override.
  2. Rotate the camera focus mode selector to AF.

Step 6. Switch camera to Auto mode

  1. Select the Mode dial to AUTO

Step 7. Power on camera

  1. Move power switch to ON

Step 8. Focus on subject

  1. Look through the viewfinder and aim the viewfinder center over the subject.
  2. Press the shutter button halfway, and the camera will focus on the subject.
  3. If necessary, the built-in flash will be raised.

Step 9. Take the picture

  1. Press the shutter button completely to take the picture.

The memory card access lamp will light as the picture is recorded.

Step 10. Review the picture

  1. The image will be displayed for 4 seconds on the LCD monitor.

Step 11. Transferring files to a computer

  1. Use the provided USB cable to connect the camera to a computer.
  2. Use the computer to open the camera folder and copy the file(s) to your computer.

Step 12. Erasing a picture

  1. Press playback button to display image to be deleted. Canon playback symbol
  2. Press delete button to display Erase menu Canon delete symbol
  3. Press the delete button Canon delete symbol again to delete the picture.
